“This MTH original Revue features the evolution of the Big Band era highlighting the synergy between big band music and American Standards, many of which were born on the Broadway stage. From classic arrangements by Glenn Miller and Artie Shaw, to more contemporary arrangements made famous by Harry Connick, Jr. and Michael Buble, this show will offer the rare opportunity to hear the Great American Songbook accompanied live on stage by an 11-piece Big Band, an event rarely seen in today’s landscape.”

“In the Ziegfeld Follies, in Hollywood films, and on the radio, Fanny Brice was one of the most celebrated entertainers of her time. With humor, talent, and chutzpah, young Fanny defies the odds and becomes one of the greatest stars of her generation. Bob Merrill and Jule Styne’s unforgettable score includes “People,” “Don’t Rain On My Parade,” and “I’m the Greatest Star.””

Jazz and Worship Presentation at the American Guild of Organists National Convention

Jazz and Worship: Pastor and Musicians Create Together

An example of team effort: Musician Brian Scarborough and Pastor Tyler Kauffman relate ideas and experience of their “Underground Community,” a weekly evening worship jazz service (trombone, guitar, bass, drums and guest musicians) developed for Lenexa United Methodist Church.  Brian and Pastor Tyler work together, discussing each week’s topics, quotations, and photographs to unify the service.  Brian also writes music for the service drawing on influences of jazz, folk, world music, and improvisation to balance a high level of music with intriguing topics and conversation in the service.

Presentation at 9 AM - Gillham Room, Crown Center Sheraton
