Starlight Theatre: Hello, Dolly!

Broadway National Tour

“Winner of four Tony Awards including Best Musical Revival, HELLO, DOLLY! is the universally acclaimed smash that NPR calls “the best show of the year!” and the Los Angeles Times says “distills the mood-elevating properties of the American musical at its giddy best.” Director Jerry Zaks’ “gorgeous” new production (Vogue) is “making people crazy happy!” (The Washington Post).

After breaking box office records week after week and receiving unanimous raves on Broadway, this HELLO, DOLLY! is now touring America, paying tribute to the original work of legendary director/choreographer Gower Champion – hailed both then and now as one of the greatest stagings in musical theater history. Rolling Stone calls it “a must-see event. A musical comedy dream. If you’re lucky enough to score a ticket, you’ll be seeing something historic. Wow, wow, wow, indeed!” “

Brian Scarborough Quintet at Charlotte Street Spine Showcase Series

June 27th Spine Showcase: Brian Scarborough Quintet and Hundee Trio

Spine Showcases continues on into the month of June! With programming curated by Kelley Gant, patrons can expect some of the freshest experiences that the Kansas City jazz scene has to offer. Brian Scarborough will present original compositions in his set, performed by his quintet of Kansas City-based musicians.

Performing with looped vocals and a top-notch rhythm section of bass and drums, Kelley Gant’s experimental jazz trio delivers lush layers backing imagery-laden lyrics. Their arrangements allow the ensemble to improvise and travel spontaneously through the music, making every live performance unique and new. Hundee Trio is pleased to invite talented visual artist Kris Devlin to collaborate with illustrations for the grief-exploring story/ballad “Lullaby to the Undertow”, with additional collaborators providing food and drink also exploring the theme of loss.

The Spine Showcases are FREE and open to the public. Every show takes place at Capsule (located 1664 Broadway Blvd, KCMO). Spine Showcases occur on the third Thursday of every month. Doors open at 7:30 PM and the performance begins at 8:00 PM.

“This MTH original Revue features the evolution of the Big Band era highlighting the synergy between big band music and American Standards, many of which were born on the Broadway stage. From classic arrangements by Glenn Miller and Artie Shaw, to more contemporary arrangements made famous by Harry Connick, Jr. and Michael Buble, this show will offer the rare opportunity to hear the Great American Songbook accompanied live on stage by an 11-piece Big Band, an event rarely seen in today’s landscape.”
